Back to Sicily…

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

Many of us know the “Valley of Temples” in Agrigento, one of the most amazing archaeological sites in the world. There is however another very interesting archaeological site: Selinunte (the name comes from a sweet-smelling herb called Selinon ). Selinunte was a Greek city situated on the south coast of Sicily. The city was founded in the seventh century BC. The archaeological site is divided into three main areas: the first contains the three biggest and most important temples (one having been re-erected in 1957) the second area is the actual city “Acropolis”, continuing to the third area west of the acropolis and beyond the River Modione, you’ll find the sanctuaries, and of course more temples.
We took some pictures during our visit there…

This is the biggest archaeological site in Europe so we don’t suggest you to visit it on foot…The best way to visit the site, is to take the guided tour, electrical mini trains circulates the archaeological area non stop, and you can hop on/off anywhere you like to. The site is open from 9.30 and close an hour before sunset the entrance fee is 5 Euros. The guided tours cost between 5 and 10 euros depending on the tour you want to do.

One last detail…after a few hours walking in the heat, breathing history and culture, surrounded by ancient ruins, admiring the beauty of the place…a couple of beers at the beach made my day complete ;)

In our office, almost everyone has a pet, dogs are the majority. Every time we travel we bring them with us. It is also nice to have them in the office. It might happen that when you call us to book an accommmodation in Italy you hear barking…now you know why !

Today I want to introduce you Milla, Fabrizio’s Labrador!
