Overall Comment: Disappointing.

What did you like: Of the three people I dealt with at Hotel Ducale Gianni was the only employee at reception one who displayed any sense of hospitality.

What you didn't like: POOR LOCATION -Not easy to find and NOT near Termini station as suggested on website. Not feasible if you're arriving by train with luggage. It is a good 15 minute walk or an expensive cab ride ( 20 euro for one, 25 euro for two with bags) Seedy area. Very little nearby in way of resaurants or cafes. CONFLICTING ROOM PRICES: Hotel Ducale did not honor the rates at which I booked room for two separatre stays about a week apart For one stay I was charged the "person" rate (me only in a triple room) and the second stay a week later was charged the more costly "room rate" (me only in a very small double directly off the noisy reception area and breakfast room)For one night, 29 September, I booked a single (1 person), was placed in a triple room (double bed and one single bed with large bathroom) and was charged the single rate. For 6-10 Oct I booked a double room for 2 people for 2 nights, and the remaining 2 nights were for 1 person. We/I were placed in a double room (one double bed and small bath). I expressly noted upon check-in that there would be only 1 person the last 2 nights and that the SINGLE rate would apply for those two nights and was assured of those rates. However, upon check-out on 10 Oct I was charged the DOUBLE rate for all four nights. Their explanation was that there were no single rooms available. Even though I reminded them that on my previous stay a week before I paid the single rate for a triple room they did nothing to correct the charge.

Overall Comment: The comments I have put do not in fact concern the Hotel Ducale, but the Hotel Bled which is located about 10 minutes' walk away from the Ducale. In fact when we got to the Ducale (not the most picturesque walk from the train station) we were told that there was a problem with our room and that we had been booked into a similar category hotel nearby. That is a bit of a pain when you think you have finally arrived at your destination - it is also not the first time that this has happened - I suspect it's more a question of there being an overbooking and a subsequent arrangement between hoteliers. So I can only review the Bled and say that it was perfectly adequate; I would warn however about the room just off reception - you can hear the phone ringing and people chatting from quite early in the morning! Otherwise it was fine. For a very short stay in Rome, though, I would advise a more central location to optimise the time available.
