Hotel Galles was originally a prestigious noble residence built in 1902 and was transformed to a hotel in 1968. The architecture of the palace reflects the style of fashion during the reign of Umberto I, the then King of Italy. The hotel is well located, just north of the main train station, Termini, giving guests excellent connections to the whole of Rome and beyond. 3 star Hotel Galles comprises of 75 rooms and 10 suites, beautifully decorated to the last detail.All rooms are soundproofed and have en suite facilities. Bedrooms are generously equipped with air conditioning, mini bar, safety deposit box, direct dial telephone, satellite TV and radio. The hotel has its own well-renowned restaurant "L'Idea" with a large selection of sea fish dishes, as well as 2 well appointed meeting rooms. Overall Comment: The location of the hotel was absolutely superb - just a 5 min walk from Termini. Staff were pleasant but a little disorganised. The room was an excellent size and nicely furnished. I would definitely go back to Hotel Galles again if I needed a triple room but this time I would contact the hotel directly to make my booking. Be prepared to use a lot of sign language if you have anything less than a solid A-Level in Italian - have fun!
What did you like: The size of our triple room was excellent - double/twin area up on the mezzanine and downstairs was a lounge area with a sofa bed with fridge and very effective aircon. LOADS of wardrobe space up and downstairs. Good size plasma tele upstairs too for when you get back and collapse! There are quite a few restaurants nearby too, so you don't have to venture back to the centre of everything if you're tired at the the end of the day and still want a good quality, reasonably priced meal.
What you didn't like: My A-Level Italian is now very 'sketchey' to say the least but the reception staff's English was even worse! Our booking somehow didn't make it to the daily check-in list (maybe because we booked on line?) and this meant an anxious wait of about an hour to see whether they actually had a room for us or not. As it turned out, due to my poor level of Italian, I didn't realise that they did have a room no problem, but they were just waiting until well after 2pm (check-in time) before we were shown to our room. The set up with the main reception being in a different building to our room was not explained very well either but, again, we got there in the end! It was only 50 steps around the corner.
