Hotel Locanda Del Ghetto is the only Venetian inn to be situated in the heart of the Ghetto, the island where the Venetian Jewish community were confined to in the 15th Century. The name of this island comes from the Venetian dialect word ghèto (throw) and thus this small Venetian island gave its name to a word that is commonly used in many languages. Today Venice's Ghetto, which is located near to the Santa Lucia Railway Station, is one of the few locations in the lagoon city to have preserved its ambience and fascination intact. Situated opposite the Campo del Ghetto, the Inn's residents are within easy reach of the Synagogues, the Jewish Museum and the Rio Terà San Leonardo, part of one of most popular walks in the city, with plenty of typical shops and restaurants.
Hotel Locanda Del Ghetto offers guest rooms that vary in their furnishings and construction, but are both intimate and welcoming. They all boast an excellent view and some have the added bonus of a balcony that looks over the Campo del Ghetto. Only a few minutes walk from the inn, residents can choose between several trattorie and small restaurants, which can be found along the Calle della Misericordia, a meeting place for many Venetians. The inn has been recently extended and modernised and occupies the buildings under the Italian School, in Campo del Ghetto. The rooms are located in a building that dates to the 15th century, and were successively altered during the course of the 16th century when the synagogue was built.

Overall Comment:
We had an enjoyable stay in Venice at this hotel. It was in a quiet location with only one small bridge to cross with our bags from the vaporetta stop at Guglie.
|
What did you like:
Size of room, good bed, extremely clean, good bathroom and quiet. Also an enjoyable 25min trip on Vaporetta to San Marco allowed us to see Venice along the canal every time we send somewhere.

What you didn't like:
Breakfast very average and some of the staff were not very welcoming or helpful.
