Noto is situated at 32 km from Syracuse and is today recognized for being one of Europe's most expressive towns of the baroque art, and is now protected as a world heritage by UNESCO. After being completely destroyed by the earthquake in 1693 it was rebuilt according to the architectural rules typical for the baroque style, becoming one of the most beautiful cities of Sicily, often called "garden of stones".
