About Tuscany
Tuscany has 3.6 million inhabitants and the capital city is Florence. It has no less then six locations on UNESCO’S world heritage list, those are; the historical centers of Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, and Pienza . The square of the Cathedral of Pisa and the beautiful area of Val d'Orcia. It lays on the west cost, borders Lazio in the south and Emilia-Romagna in the north. Tuscany is known for it’s characteristic landscape, the rich amount of cities and towns with artistic importance and the production of wine.
Tuscany Tuscany is synonym of green rounded hills, often described as a beautiful postcard and those that have been there would probably tell you it is not an exaggeration. This is indeed tuscany, green hills that seem to continue in eternity, decorated with the typical Cypress Trees, a truly magnificent landscape. Two thirds of the region consists of hills, and one of mountains, but there is also a beautiful coastline to it, with the island of Giglio and Elba at close distance.
In Tuscany you'll find the renaissance city Florence, as well as Pisa and Siena, not to forget towns like Pienza and villages like San Gimignano, all of which we can warmly recommend a visit. Our suggestion for a breathtaking typical Tuscan landscape would be a trip to the valley of Val d'Orcia, maybe the most caracteristic part of the region. Many beautiful medieval villages lies in this valley, one of them is Montalcino, world famous for it's red wine "Brunello di Montalcino". And wine tasting is a common attraction in this region, being the producer of big part of Italy's wines. The region of Tuscany is a place to visit all year around. For the hot summer days a hotel close to the sea could be good, but maybe a room with a view is the best for meeting the spring in Florence, perfect for the winter season is probably a guesthouse with a fireplace in the countryside. A nice way to see Tuscany is also to travel by car, here you won't find the hectic traffic of the rest of Italy, but can easily get around the countryside from village to village. Another bonus to this part of Italy, are the lovely thermal baths, Tuscany has many of them, private as well as public. An unbeatable way to gaze at the rounded hills, is immersed in 38 °C of hot water.
